A Little Historyįigure 3 shows how the measure looks when all notes are converted to shuffle notation. This lesson will develop your ability to do just that. You are probably asking, "How is it going to train my hearing?" Well the answer to that question is that the only effective way to play 3 overĢ is to hear what you are playing as distinct voices. It will train you to hearĪll voices that you play. Learning to play 3 over 2 will open a new avenue to your guitar playing enjoyment. Your answer was (2), don't feel bad, as you are in the majority. If your answer was (1), then you are blessed with the ability to hear what you are playing as others hear you, or you have undergone some form of training to hear everything that you play. Interestingly, mostįingerstyle players do not hear what they are playing as distinct voices. The melody voice consists primarily of 1/4 note triplets, while the bass voice is nothing more than a standard alternating bass. Play the video and as you listen to it, I'm sure you will hear the melody and theīass as two distinct or separate voices. The video to the left is a portion of a simple 3 over 2 song you will learn in later lessons. The name stems from theįact that there are three equal note durations in the melody played over two equal note durations in the bass.
